Apocalypse Wow!!

While finding a pic for this blog for 2012-the movie over the internet, i came across a comment made on a site, which noted- 2012 is not just a disaster porn, Its a disaster gang-bang. The statement sums it up.This is like the mother of all disaster movies. You may end up loving it if you have a fetish for this genre of films. Or else you may end up having a severe headache. I liked 2012 overall. A nice watch.The Special effects are mind numbing. Clearly outshining other recent movies. In Transformers-2 two, they blew up the pyramids, in GI JOE they blew up the Eiffel tower, 2012 is about blowing up the whole world. And the scale is spectacular. The amount of hard work that has gone into the detailing in CGI effects is commendable.

Now the story. a few searches here and there on google will leave you with a huge amount of information on the apocalyptic prophecies, which are more or less similar to the Maayan prophecy that the world would come to an end in 2012 . But the idea of making an entire film, that too a 2 hr 40 mins hollywood movie out of it demands a script too.Sadly, the director didn't work much hard on it.The story(does anyone care) revolves around this one family and a handful of other characters who have to fight the doomsday. Some of them die, some survive. Nothing new.and yes, while they are doing it, the whole world is getting blown apart. The director Roland Emmerich(how do we pronounce his name), whose earlier works include “The independence day” and “The day after tomorrow”, is notorious for blowing up monuments in his movies. He has done it lavishly again.
The film is a little too long for a hollywood production. Plus there are not many wow moments like the president’s speech in The independence day. And most importantly, it doesn't raise a scary thought- “what if this happens in real”.

If you like to watch some fantastic special effects and the world getting crumbled like a cookie, then go ahead. Otherwise stay (2012) miles away from this.;).
