Aaj Kal ka Pyaar....

Love aaj kal was one movie I was desperately waiting for. So, the review is inevitable.:).I have refrained myself from reading any reviews on this movie till now. But now that I have seen it I can say it’s definitely not JWM (means cult) but certainly a good time pass affair which touches these important issues related to love “today”. But surprisingly, it’s the love “yesterday” that ignites the screen.

The story runs in parallel timeframes, sometimes confusing, but easy otherwise. The film touches the issues involved in long distance relationships, career v/s love, and how the meaning love has changed across generations etc. Saifu has done a great job because these roles are cut out for him. He has by now mastered the art of playing this urbane, cool, suave, guy.DCH, Hum TUM, KHNH and so on..). But his sardar act works more than the modern one. Deepika wasted a precious, well written role. She just don’t get those complex dialogues right. Deepu dear, there is a huge need for improvisation. Just to paraphrase saif: “Tujhe acting nahi aati jaaneman”;)lol. But the one who took my heart away was the Brazilian model, Giselle Monteiro, who played Harleen. Minimal dialogues(thankfully), maximum impact-straight to the heart:). Dil le gayi….;)

But the best part of the movie is the music and the songs. The template is very JWMish. Ye dooriyan is a very good number, off late I have loved all Mohit Chauhan songs. “Twist” is the new disco anthem, very catchy very peppy. Chor bazari, is a beautiful number, very appealing. It’s perfect “break-up” song. Ironically, Pritam has created a song named “Chor” bazari…wow!!he he…Thoda thoda pyar, is beautifully filmed on giselle. Aaj din chadeya is also good. And the very happening number is aahoon aahoon, another chart buster which comes at the end just like mauja hi mauja. Special mention for the lyrics by Irshad kamil, very innovative very “in”.:) And lastly, the song named “main kya hoon” which is rather dull and average, but I am mentioning it because it is depicted in a way that every software engg can identify with it- like How saif gets excited about new job and towards the end of the song gets disillusioned by the life he always wanted. Must see for every SE. he he:)

The production values are high. The movie is shot well, across continents. The lines are smartly written. But the “imtiaz” touch is missing. So, overall it’s a nice time passable film, don’t expect answers to your love problems and see how love “yesterday” was so better than love “today”.
